General description
In this activity we studied the different leadership styles. For that, what we had to do was firstly to read some articles to obtain useful information. After that, in groups we had to imagine that we were going to be a headmaster of a school, so we had to choose the context of the school and one of the styles of leadership that we think was better for the situation of that specific school.
After choosing that, we had to prepare a kind of campaign to present it in the class to the rest of our partners but without saying the kind of leadership style we had chosen. The rest of the class had to guess which style we had chosen.

Summary |
This was the penultimate work we did in the subject and we had to choose one leadership in order to be the best headmaster for our institution.
For us, this activity was more interesting and enjoyable because on Wednesday the presentation of the leaderships looked like real elections, and it was very entertaining. I guess the teacher wanted us to do the task in order to increase our knowledge of styles of leaderships because nowadays in our country it is the more spoken issue. On Monday Linda explained us the task we had to do. We could choose between four styles. After thinking about it and sharing different ideas we thought the best would be the participative one. We guessed that we had to be original so we invented made a lot of things for being the best. A component of the group brought from her house speakers, so we could listen better the music when our headmaster appeared. Also we made a big poster and a lot of brochures. With all of this we could get lost into the presentation and focus on being entertaining, but we really understood everything. Of course, I don't think there is a good or bad leadership style, we live in a really subjective world where we can't judge because everything depends on the opinions. With this, we learned to respect and know every leadership style because is something we'll have to face in school as future teachers. And no, I'm not talking about how to deal with the director of the place or the gobernment, but ourselves. We'll be leaders, we'll liderate hundreds of people throughout all of our professional life, and we'll have to choose one leadership style. You may think that that decision will be innate, but if we don't know the possiblities we won't know what we'll have to face. What would have happened if Hitler never knew the authoritarian style? Life would have been better, or they would have responded to their natural insctint? The worst part was inventing the speech because it had to be original and interesting. With this task we have learnt to try to be the best for any situation and know what it is all that we can do, giving our best but always responding to our beliefs and natural instinct. |

The principal terms that we have worked in this activity:
|
Self-evaluation
|
Marta: 7 because I think that we did a good work with the campaign and I did a big effort to do the best we can.
Alicia: 8 because we worked really hard in order to do the best campaign we could. We planned every single detail, like the music, dressing and I designed the logo and banner. However, we were so tired we couldn’t give the very best of us because of the lack of time. Teresa Abad: 7 because as it was one of the activities I liked the most, I was so motivated to create the campaign and I tried to put all my effort in every detail. Ana: 6 in this task I have problem with my role. I forgot doing the reflection of the analyst because it had been time ago that I was analyst and I didn't remember it. But I do it on Saturday. For the rest, I try to do my best helping to our leader Inma with the candidature. Teresa Chico: 7, because we were very motivated with this task and all of us worked with great effort to prepare every detail. Inma: 8 because I worked really hard preparing my speech and trying that it showed the transformational style of leadership. However, my performance wasn’t as good as I wanted, I think I would have practised the contact with people during the performance more. Maria: 7 because I think that all of us did a big effort this week to get a good campaign and I helped a lot with this activity doing the material for the meeting and thinking political strategies. GROUP: 8 for the entire group because we work a lot in order to create a good campaign and we put all our effort having into account every detail. In this activity we were so motivated and the group was very good coordinated. We also enjoyed doing that because it was an interesting activity. |
Relation with competences |
In this activity we have learnt to work in groups that is an important thing that we will do in the future, because as teachers that we will be, we will have to cooperate with the rest of the professionals, because education needs that, the ideas and the implication of many people in order to find what the best is. This is what we do in this task, share our ideas, and create an idea with all of our opinions.
We also learnt that each institution has a different context, so the style of leadership will be different in each school because depending on the context there are more effective one style or other. Appart from that we learnt how to use some TIC like postermywall in order to create amazing posters. |
